WHAT’S NEW?
• It looks like Target is coming to Richfield. The upscale retail chain is said to have purchased 15 acres of land on the south side of Richfield. Richfield seems destined to become the commercial shopping center of Central Utah — and to offer many new jobs in the future. Welcome news since Sevier County actually lost jobs last year, according to DWS.
• Sevier County has a new local television station! Ideal Living has partnered with CentraCom cable to form Local10, bringing local news, events, and features to Central Utah. To get CentraCom’s great cable TV service and see all that’s happening, Ideal Living has made special arrangements so that if you sign up at http://www.centracominteractive.com/idealliving you can save on your TV and internet bills, get all services FREE for the first two months, and get all the movie channels FREE for three months! With CentraCom (formerly Central Utah Telephone) you can feel good about supporting a local company, while enjoying their 163 stations and blazing fast Internet speeds at work or home, without tying up phone lines!
• You could win a $500 shopping spree at Jones Glass and Decorating Center in Richfield! Just shop on their web site at http://www.jonesglassanddecorating.com and tell them what you want! Then, fill out the form at http://www.jonesglassanddecorating.com/SHOPPINGSPREE.html . Tell your friends — as soon as 200 entries are received, the drawing will be held!
• A new, large IFA store will reportedly be built on the south side of Richfield.
• Annabella has seen over 20 homes built in the past year, with more on the way… Meanwhile, the Tri-Baronness development in Monroe is said to offer over 50 half-acre lots for new homes. Further, Ideal Living is told that a meeting will be held this week in Monroe to discuss another large, new, home development in Monroe, but with smaller lots, located further up the hill.
• A new Sevier County Lodging Association is forming, to help support hotel owners.
• Utah Power is said to have rejected NEVCO’s request to use the power substation located next to the land they purchased in Sigurd to build a coal-fired power plant. Many wonder why they won’t move to a less controversial location. Reportedly, NEVCO has arranged to sell the proposed plant already to another company, and changing details of the deal now (including location), might put their deal at risk.
• John Jacob, Republican U.S. Congressional candidate for Utah’s third district, said the power plant would be more profitable if it were developed using cleaner IGCC technology. If NEVCO won’t use modern technology, Jacob said it shouldn’t be built at all. “Raise a stink now, or you’ll be smelling the stink later,” he said in a Q&A on Local10.
• Meanwhile, NEVCO’s request for a zoning change to build in a former residential/agricultural area was approved by current county commissioners and an air quality permit for the proposed plant has not been rescinded. Yet, with a Utah Supreme Court decision regarding the proposed plant still looming, which could mean that all previous decisions would be annulled, along with several lawsuits in the works, it could possibly be many years until NEVCO is cleared to build some sort of plant, in Sevier County or elsewhere. Utah Air Quality Board members have stated that the approval process before such plants can be built typically takes 8-10 years, so the process may still have 4-5 years before anyone actually knows whether the plant can be built.
• Look for changes in the roads around Richfield’s South I-70 interchange to accomodate increased traffic around the growing airport, and the coming Home Depot and other stores.
• Videotaped wills are an increasingly popular way to help keep harmony in your family during trying times. If you would like assistance with videotaping and creating DVDs for this — or other family or business events — please contact Ideal Living Media at 201-9884 or ideallivingmedia@gmail.com .
• The Springville Art Museum will honor Sevier County’s many local artists, past and present, with a special juried art show September 11-October 15, 2007. Intake day will be August 28 at Snow College. A parallel exhibit will be scheduled locally for overflow works. The next Commissioners Art Show will be April 19-25, 2007. For info, contact Jim and Jeannie Puzey at 896-8839.
• Do you wish your business had more ways to reach customers? We can help you with effective, inexpensive marketing through our local television, print and Internet options.
