WHAT’S NEW?
• What are your favorite things about Central Utah? What makes living here “ideal” for you and your family? Ideal Living is coming out with our “Favorite Things” issue of our magazine, and want to feature the things that make living here special to you. Is it picnicking in Monrovian Park? Ideal Dairy’s punchbags? The view of the Kimberly’s from Annabelle? We want to know, and share it with everyone in our community! Please send your thoughts (and pictures if you have them) to ideallivingmedia@gmail.com or call and leave a voicemail message at 201-9884. Thank you!

• Three new hotels are reportedly in the works for Richfield — two at the south I-70 interchange, and another at the north exit. Together, the nationally-recognized chain hotels will add 250 rooms to the area, along with dozens of new jobs. Experts say these hotels could concentrate tourist business and traffic at these ends of town, and cement Richfield as a prime tourist stop midway between Las Vegas and Denver. Recently, Interstate 70, from Richfield eastward into Colorado, was voted as the United State’s most scenic interstate highway. And we couldn’t agree more.
• Richfield’s Pressed Petals (pressedpetals.com) has been sold to H.I.G. Capital (higcapital.com), based in Miami, Florida. The company will become part of DCWV, Inc.(dcwv.com) and will be combined with Provo’s Die Cuts With a View scrapbooking company.
• Old Dr. Greenwood is reportedly trying to sell the Richfield’s Days Inn, with two parties having reportedly having expressed serious interest. It is said that Greenwood intends to build a new hotel in Fairview in Sanpete County.
• Various sources have stated that the elder Dr. Greenwood has indeed sold his Sigurd property to NEVCO (aka, Nevada Coal Company, TDA Foundation, and Sevier Power Company). Many in our area are very concerned over the deal, reportedly brokered by Brad Staples of Century 21 realty in Richfield, especially since Rocky Mountain Power, owners of the substation, are said to have rejected any use by NEVCO. This seems to negate the very purpose of the tentative location, since presumably the building of an additional power station somewhere else will be required.
Even the building of the substations alone have become controversial in Utah, as controversy over a proposed power substation in Herriman continues to make news in many statewide news sources.
Another Sevier County resident, regarded as a respected and trustworthy man, reported that he had been approached by NEVCO originally, and signed an option for his land with them. He reported that NEVCO representatives told him not to inform his wife, family, or others in the area of their “secret” deal. But, he said he eventually “got the guilts,” which compelled him to tell his wife and family members. They were extremely upset and urged him to get out of the arrangement. He then broke the deal, at some personal expense.
Meanwhile, the Utah Attorney General’s request that the courts throw out the Sevier Citizens for Clean Air and Water’s appeal on the Division of Air Quality’s approval of the tentative coal-fired power plant has been rejected. Siding with the Sevier Citizens, the judge on the case has found that their case has merit in contesting the safety of the NEVCO plans, signaling their case has a solid chance of winning, which would defeat NEVCO’s ability to build their tentative plant in Sevier County.
• Cocomotive, our local chocolatier, has moved to a new location, where a former candy shop was located, around 300 North 600 East in Richfield.
• A new motorcycle racing track and stadium is said to be in planning stages, tentatively to be located somewhere up the mountain above Glenwood/Annabelle.
• Citing complaints over what many view as politically-motivated reprisals (including statewide news organizations), Delbert Lloyd is mounting a write-in campaign for Sevier County Sheriff.
• Just a suggestion: Many local businesses are struggling of late, including restaurants. So, please consider treating your family to a lunch or dinner out this week. We know you are a good cook, but sometimes its fun to just relax together and enjoy a night out. And remember, we all benefit when we each shop local.
• Do you want to be famous? Or at least, want your business to be? Advertisers on Local10 report they get stopped frequently by local folks who are excited to have seen them on Local10 television. Meanwhile, the business owners are excited about the new recognition — and business — that only the impact of television brings.
SPECIAL: 3 months of commercials on Local10, broadcasting to nearly 20,000 viewers with over 15 views per day, is only $150 per month, and saves the $200 commercial production fee. Just call 201-9884 today for more information.
Ideal Living wants to be a your best, and least expensive, advertising option when marketing your business. We have deliberately set our prices as low as possible in order to not strain our local area’s businesses and consumers.
• Please note: Our community’s information web site now works with two URLs: www.IdealLivingMedia.com and www.RichfieldMall.com. Several new areas have been added and some others have been rearranged. Look for more on the way!
