WHAT’S NEW?
• Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, from Ideal Living Media!
• Ideal Dairy has been sold to local restaurateurs. Jeff and Tooter Ogden, the third generation of the Ogden family, didn’t have any family members to pass the Richfield landmark on to someday, and began quietly talking with long-time residents Gary and Kristie Sorenson, purveyors of the Garden Grill, Sandi’s Drive-Inn, the former Dos Frijoles, and many other fine restaurants. The Sorensons, along with their many children, who will be taking over in November, are committed to continuing the fine tradition of food and fun available at Ideal Dairy, perhaps adding a few improvements along the way. The Garden Grill and Sandi’s will remain open, as well. When a business faces a need for change, it’s a wonderful thing to see everyone so happy with the outcome.
• Wal-mart now offers many generic drugs for only $4.00. Over 300 different generic prescription drugs are now offered at this price, including most antibiotics. The move is a competitive one, since some chains back east are now giving away these drugs for free, as a public health initiative.
• The new Funfinity toy store in downtown Richfield continues to have a truly grand, grand opening. The store, which offers award-winning, learning-oriented toys, books and games — all for 5-40% off — has had a constant stream of shoppers from it’s first opening day. The new business has a sister store in Springville, and if you visit their web site at funfinity.com and see anything you like, just stop by or call the local store and they will get it for you from their warehouse right away. Funfinity’s great service, great products, and great prices, offer another fun-filled reason to shop local this holiday season!
• New businesses coming to Main Street in Richfield include a bead/jewelry store, a party supply store, a toy store, and what is said will be a dance/exercise facility. Support your local businesses!
• CentraCom’s cable TV and broadband internet service will be available in Monroe, Elsinore, Annabella and Central. That’s right, super fast, broadband internet is coming — finally! Compare and save! • Sevier County Election Results: Non-official results show that winners will be:
County Assessor: Gail Demille
County Attorney: Dale P. Eyre
County Clerk/Auditor: Steven C. Wall
County Comm A: Gary Mason
County Comm B: Ivan Cowley
County Recorder: Jayrene B. Nielsen
County Sheriff: Phil H. Barney
County Treasurer: Cheryl Buchanan
Justice Court: Kent Nielsen
School Board D1: John P. Johnson
School Board D2: Don Naser
School Board D3: Jack Hansen
Congratulations to all the winners, and thanks to all those citizens who voted. Your participation in our area’s civic arena helps make Central Utah a wonderful place to live.
Even with many candidates running unopposed, with a total of over 5,230 votes placed, several candidates won with surprisingly small victories.
Phil Barney won with only 3,399 votes, revealing a strong showing for write-in candidate Delbert Lloyd, suggesting many citizens disapprove of his handling of various personnel issues after the runoff election earlier this year, which were seen by many as unfair “political payback.” Lawsuits on the matter are still pending.
Also of note, Gary Mason, running unopposed for re-election as county commissioner, received significantly less than 5,000 votes, which is interpreted by many as a showing of disapproval by local citizens — primarily for his earlier support for the proposed coal-fired power plant. In a related race, Doug Peterson, who also ran for re-election as county commissioner, lost to Ivan Cowley earlier this year in the runoff election, in a contest which, again, was largely seen as a referendum of the public’s view of a proposed, coal-fired, electrical plant in Sigurd.
• The Sevier Citizens for Clean Air and Water asked for equal time after the NEVCO presentation to the Planning Commission was televised on Local10. So, Ideal Living Media showed up at one of their meetings and videotaped brief interviews with several members who were present, with two additional members taped a few days later. If you are wondering about this group, and don’t have access to Local10, you may view the interviews now at http://tinyurl.com/yb6jfk or contact Sevier Citizens for a DVD copy: 435-896-2822 or 146 North Main Street, Suite 27, P.O. Box 182, Richfield, Utah 84701.
