WHAT’S NEW?

• Richfield’s Movie Gallery is offering free video rentals anytime, today through Sunday. Yep, free. Time to catch up on all those movies you missed last year.

• Look for Ideal Living’s new talk show, with local host, Tooter Ogden, former owner/proprietor of Ideal Dairy on CentraCom’s Local10. Our first guest is new county commissioner, Ivan Cowley. The two discuss the strong, balanced, growth we are enjoying here in Sevier County’s local economy.

• Visit ideallivingmedia.com to get a great deal on prescription eye glasses — as low as $15. We learned of this service recently, and realized that glasses can be difficult to afford for many, or others may want to have a second pair in reserve. All you need is an eyeglass prescription, and you can order another pair — available in a wide variety of styles — and have it delivered to you in just a few days. If you don’t know your prescription, we have heard that by bringing in your current pair of glasses to any eyeglass store, they can tell you what your prescription is. To see what they have to offer, just visit ideallivingmedia.com and visit the Arts area.

• Tim Wagner, of Utah Smart Energy, spoke at the monthly Sevier Citizens meeting a couple days ago. Look for upcoming coverage from Ideal Living on Local10. He mentioned the group’s state-wide impact, citing the Utah Supreme Court’s recent decision, which cited the group’s success as support for allowing Utah environmental groups to have a say in environmental issues in Utah. Wagner also offered some astute analysis of the proposed IPP coal plant’s troubles based upon waining interest nationwide in coal power. When asked specifically about the NEVCO/SPC proposed coal-fired power plant, he responded:

“The issue is whether or not Sevier Power Company will be able to sell their power once they get up and producing power. As a merchant plant [which has no regular customers, but tries to auction it off during summer months], which is what I understand they will be, I think they are going to find it very difficult in the future to sell their power. Largely because the markets are changing dramatically as we speak. Whats happening in California will continue to happen all across the country. More people are demanding action on global warming, reductions in CO2 emissions, and where they get their energy… This type of power is going to become very unfavorable to municipalities and utilities as they try to diversity their portfolio, and invest in more renewable energy — without carbon taxes, without carbon caps… I think [the proposed NEVCO plant] is an extremely risky venture. I would venture that it’s probably more a speculative thing more than anything else, to be quite honest. I don’t think they are going to ever be able to get the thing built to where they can produce power and sell it. I just don’t. By the time they would get the plant up and going and producing power… the markets are going to have changed much more dramatically than they are today. I don’t think they are going to be able to find the market where they can sell their power. I really don’t.”

Wagner also shared some insights on the move from large, heavily polluting power plants, to smaller, renewalbe, local power sources — similar to Ephraim’s Hydroelectric power plant — and that the trend is toward property owners making money themselves by producing solar and wind power on their own properties.

Also, at the meeting, Jim Kennon gave recognition to Cecilia Bytheway, for her outstanding contribution to the county while serving as head of the Planning Commission. She will be missed.

• Ideal Dairy now offers hot, grilled panini sandwiches, offering a variety of fresh-sliced meats and cheeses served with fresh tomatoes, a tomato-herb aioli sauce, and more, all served on chewy ciabatta rolls. Warm, savory and delicious! Also, look for their new, fresh-made bagels and cinnamon chip bread, along with their baked-fresh-daily wheat, white and rye bread loaves. A variety of new soups are on offer. Pistachio Almond, Cotton Candy and Jelly Belly flavors of ice cream are also now available. New owner, Kristie Sorenson, is really going the extra mile in serving our community. Stop by today!

• The Monroe area is now receiving Local10 on their CentraCom cable service! CentraCom continues to expand their offerings throughout Sevier County. If you are trying to reach the people of Sevier County, the most cost-effective way is through Ideal Living.

• Larsen’s Ace Hardware in Richfield is expanding. They are adding on to the back of the store, largely to add additional wood and other products for contractors, as well as widening their aisles and re-arranging their shelves to make the store easier to shop in. They’ll still be offering their same great service.

• Mason Trucking is selling some of their used trucks, all in excellent repair. You can read details on the trucks, apply for work, and more, at http://masontrucking.com .

• Looking for a new cocker spaniel puppy for this Valentine’s Day? Willow Creek Cockers, in nearby Axtell, has a $100 off sale going on now. View their cute puppies, learn about this breed, and their new cockapoos (cocker spaniel and poodle mix — sooo cute!), read about upcoming litters, or sign up for their informative free newsletter, all at http://willowcreekcocker.com . Their latest newsletter reminds us that your animals need extra feed to help keep themselves warm during cold weather like we’ve been having lately. Do you think this might apply to humans? Just wondering, especially given the next item…

• We neglected to mention the phone number for Richfield’s new Domino’s Pizza, 896-4444, which we meant to include in our last issue. Their delivery vehicles are suddenly seen everywhere around the Richfield area. The menu for the take out/delivery-only chain may be viewed at: http://tinyurl.com/yygbut .

• Lots of folks lately ask where we get our information for this newsletter. Isn’t it obvious? We listen to you! (Having a research analyst background with private investigator experience doesn’t hurt either.) Remember, if your business is offering something new, please let us know. It’s free, and we are happy to share what you’re offering to our friends and neighbors. We keep our sources confidential, and verify what we “print” from multiple, reliable sources. So you can count on Ideal Living to bring you up to date on the exciting growth and other positive happenings in our area… Like free video rentals. ;-) Have a great week!
