WHAT’S NEW?
• Sevier County continues to experience remarkable economic growth. Meanwhile, various projects, which have been in planning over the past year, are starting construction in earnest — or soon will be.
• Work continues full steam on Technology Drive — the Richfield road which runs behind the I-70 Interchange behind Wendy’s, running north past Rotary Park to Snow College Richfield. The project will continue the road all the way to 5th North. Unfortunately, we have heard a report of at least one near-accident with a car speeding toward the former overpass, to only brake at the last second to avoid falling into the ~20 foot deep ditch. Drive carefully!
• Tired of expensive satellite television, or slow Internet speeds? Sign up with CentraCom cable, where a basic cable channel package with high speed Internet costs only $37 per month. Yes, that’s quality cable TV plus high speed Internet, in a single, convenient bill, for only $37 per month.
And, if you sign up via Ideal Living at http://www.centracom.com/idealliving/ , or mention Ideal Living on the telephone, you can get one month free with a one-year agreement, or two months free with a two-year agreement, and lock your low prices in for the length of the contract, saving you even further.
Movie channels are also available, and again, if you sign up via Ideal Living, you get them free for three months! Elsinore is complete with upgraded cable TV and 5Mbps. broadband Internet service now available. Central Valley and Annabella are coming very soon. Upgrades to the entire system have dramatically increased upload speeds in all areas, and TV channels continue to be added to the various television packages, at no additional charge.
Check it out today: http://www.centracom.com/idealliving/ . Your subscriptions, available in nearly every part of Sevier County, help support Ideal Living’s services, which we are happy to provide free to you. Thank you for your support!
• The new Chameleon theater and venue, located behind the Monroe Main Center DVD rental and musical instruments store, should be opening for chaperoned DJ dances by early summer. The building is impressive, with professional sound and lighting systems, and should offer an enjoyable entertainment hall for all sorts of events. To learn more, or to schedule the hall, which is located at the corner of Main and Center in Monroe, contact Henry or Sue Reese at Monroe Main Center at 527-0915.
• Meanwhile, Madcap Video & Tanning in Richfield is opening a new arcade inside their DVD rental store. The arcade will include Dance Dance Revolution, which schools around the nation have been buying to supplement their physical fitness programs (e.g., see http://tinyurl.com/yo4dht ). The arcade will also include air hockey, pool, hunting and other video games, claw machine and more. Madcap, which has rearranged their store to make room for the arcade, is located at 44 West 100 North in Richfield. Call 893-8587 for details.
• Another business which is re-arranging — and enlarging — is Ace Hardware in Richfield. Their new, wide-open aisles are a pleasure to browse and shop in, making it quicker and easier to find things and get in-and-out. Ace Larsen’s Hardware, which seems busier than ever lately, is located at 1155 South Hwy 118, and may be called at 896-8455.
• As with the new Home Depot, reports have come in that construction on the new Richfield Target store — to be located just south of Wal-Mart — may begin this Spring.
• J.R. Munchies is said to be being torn down in the near future, to make way for a new office building, which will house ERA Realty’s offices.
• Wondering what’s going on in the Richfield-area real estate market? Sign up for Hal & Jean Ward’s new email newsletter at http://centralutahhomes.com/richfield-market.html#signup . These respected, local realtors, who have over 25 years’ experience in the area, are offering their free, informative newsletter will include information about how the troubled national real estate market is — or is not — effecting the costs and values of our local real estate. Of course, there is no obligation whatsoever, and your personal info will not be shared with anyone, and you may unsubscribe at any time. • A report has come in that a new horse arena and breeding ranch is in the early planning stages, to be located between Richfield and Glenwood.
• Yet another furniture store is moving into downtown Richfield. With the exception of buildings currently undergoing renovation, this brings downtown Richfield storefronts to nearly full capacity. The Party Central store has moved next to Funfinity which gives everyone a great opportunity to shop local!
• Since when does a class project result in a multi-million deal? Since Milford High Teacher Andy Swapp decided to let some 8th grade students help set up a state-loaned anemometer, or wind speed gauge, on his property. Turns out that was a good idea. Swapp and others just signed a $270 million contract for a wind farm to be set up on his (and adjoining) property. The wind farm will allow locals to continue to raise cattle or grow crops just as before, since the newer windmills are relatively small and it doesn’t matter what else is done on the properties. To save money in the future, the company, Southern California Public Power Authority — which operates on behalf of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and the cities of Burbank and Pasadena — will *prepay* the amount to “UPC Wind of Milford” in exchange for 200 megawatts of wind-generated electricity – enough to supply 43,000 households. Amazingly, the wind farm will be up and running by the end of 2008. Why are these Southern California cities so interested in wind power? Because a new California law forbids utilities to enter into long-term contracts with conventional coal-fired power producers. Similar laws have been enacted in every other western state, except Utah. To test whether your property has the potential for a wind farm, contact the Utah Geological Survey’s Anemometer Loan Program at http://tinyurl.com/24jm54 .
• If you live in the Sevier County area, and are aware of any news and events in our area, please let us know: ideallivingmedia@gmail.com or call 201-9884. We enjoy hearing from you!
• Online services Google Maps and Google Earth have updated their satellite photos of the Richfield area. The new photos appear to be from a couple years ago, but offer vivid detail not previously available. Fun, and informative! Visit Google Maps at http://maps.google.com, selecting the “Satellite” button at right, or the “Hybrid” button to overlay the street names and other identifying markers on top of the aerial photos. Google Earth, which offers 3-D imagery and other effects (yet requires a relatively new computer to run), may be downloaded at http://earth.google.com .
• The Sagebrush Gallery at Fremont Indian State Park and Museum will display the artwork of award-winning artists Trina Strong and André and Deb Forton. The show runs through May 26. Strong, of Vernal, shows her vibrant watercolors in juried art shows and galleries in the United States and Europe. Her works can be found in museums as well as corporate and private collections around the world. According to Strong, “A piece of artwork should ‘speak’ to the viewer, generating an emotional response, hopefully a positive one.” Having won many awards, Strong particularly enjoys painting petroglyphs, birds, botanicals, and landscapes. The Forton’s, of Joseph, are a husband-and-wife team who has been showing their work in art shows, galleries and gift shops for nearly 20 years with numerous awards to show for it. Mrs. Forton designs and weaves beautiful and functional baskets and incorporates Mr. Forton’s intricate “antler spirit” carvings. Using only naturally shed antlers in their work, “it takes a certain skill to find them,” says Mr. Forton. Fremont Indian State Park and Museum is located 21 miles south of Richfield on I-70. The visitor center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, please call (435) 527-4631.

• The staff of Ideal Living Media expresses our sorrow and condolences to the family of Dall Dimick, who recently passed on. Dall, who had survived many years on a heart transplant, was a professional fine artist, specializing in beautiful watercolors. You may have seen him on a recent Ideal Living television production focusing on several of the artists whose works are on display at the Staples Art Center in Elsinore. To view these interviews online, including Dall’s, just visit http://tinyurl.com/2v6uqp . If you are interested in purchasing any prints or works by Dall, please stop by the Art Center in Elsinore, or call Sue Ann Staples-Brady at 896-6122.
